About Sierra Forestworks

Our Mission

Sierra ForestWorks is an unprecedented regional partnership dedicated to advancing forest restoration, wildfire resilience, and sustainable workforce development in California’s Central Sierra region. Our mission is simple: we are training today’s workforce to manage tomorrow’s forests . By uniting federal and state land managers, industry leaders, education partners, workforce agencies, philanthropy, and local government, we are preparing the next generation of logging and forest management professionals while strengthening the long-term health of our rural communities.

The Challenge We Face

California’s ambitious wildfire and forest resilience goals are currently constrained by a critical bottleneck: a severe shortage of trained heavy equipment operators, logging professionals, and forest maintenance technicians. Today, the industry faces an aging and declining workforce, coupled with limited access to credentialed training in rural regions. Without intentional, regionally grounded workforce development, state climate investments risk becoming temporary expenditures rather than a durable, long-term resilience strategy

The Solution: a Seamless Pathway

Pathways@2x
To address this challenge, Sierra ForestWorks is building a sustainable, regionally grounded education-to-employment pipeline. We provide a “Seamless Pathway” that guides students from High School to Community College, and directly into Industry Training and Jobs. Through our Central Sierra Heavy Equipment Operator, Logging Operator, and Forest Maintenance Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway and Certification Program, we prepare both youth and adult learners for high-wage, high-demand, non-automatable careers
